Girls at the Museum Exploring Science (GAMES)

I serve as an organizer and instructor for the CU Museum’s Girls and the Museum Exploring Science (GAMES) program. This program encourages girls in primary school to foster an appreciation for science. We teach students about ongoing research at the University museum and give them the opportunity to take part in hands-on research-based activities.

Association for Women Geoscienstists (AWG) Laramide Chapter Board

I served as a member of the outreach committee for AWG’s Laramide Chapter from December 2020 to September 2022. In this position, I helped coordinate the annual “Outstanding Student Awards” reception and served as an AWG representative at several science fairs, including the CoorsTek Denver Metro Regional Science and Engineering Fair, the Wyoming State Science Fair, and the Northeastern Regional Science and Engineering Fair. As a judge at these fairs, I selected the winner of the AWG Student Award for Geoscience Excellence (SAGE).

The Research Experience for Community College Students (RECCS)

The RECCS program is an excellent opportunity for community college students to get hands-on research experience (and a stipend!) at CU Boulder! I served as a mentor for this program in the Summer of 2021, and I plan to continue working with the RECCS program to mentor students in the future. The program works by matching a graduate student or faculty mentor with an interested community college student from Colorado. Then, for nine weeks, the mentor and mentee work together to complete a research project.

Unlearning Racism in the Geosciences (URGE)

Unlearning Racism in the Geosciences (URGE) is a program designed to address ongoing problems of inequity in academia. As a co-leader of CU Boulder’s URGE pod, I work to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) policy in the university community. URGE is a URGE operates as a policy-focused group. We evaluate existing university policy and provide recommendations to our department leadership based on data-driven DEI initiatives.
